Bible Verse Copywork & Memory Worksheets
Paste any verse from any translation. Print it as scripture copywork, then as first-letter hints, then as blank memory lines, and watch a student go from copying the words to saying them without the page. Print or cursive. One verse or a whole chapter. Verse numbers stay where they belong.
Free: 20 pages a month, no card. Plus trial: card required, nothing charged for 7 days.
Memorize scripture by hand
A Bible verse worksheet generator turns a verse you paste into printable practice. DittoSheets prints three sheets from it. Copywork has the student write out every word. First Letter Hints leave one letter per word, so the student recalls the verse with a small prompt. Memory Lines leave only the verse numbers and punctuation, and a student who can fill them in knows the verse. The same ten minutes cover handwriting, spelling and scripture memory, in the translation your family already reads. All three steps are free.
Three steps to a memorized verse
Matthew 5:43-45, printed three ways by the builder.
The full verse, copied from a model printed right above the line. Two or three passes fix the wording.
Each word shrinks to its first letter plus a blank the length of the word. The student writes the rest.
Only verse numbers and punctuation remain. Fill it in and the verse is theirs.
One psalm, every age
Psalm 23:1-3, printed six ways for different ages and steps.
The verses in gray tracing letters, for children still learning to form letters.
Copywork in Teaching Print. Verse numbers print in blue so they are read, not copied.
The same verses in Learning Curve cursive, for handwriting and scripture practice at once.
Each word reduced to its first letter and a blank. The student writes the rest from memory.
Only verse numbers and punctuation remain. Anyone who can fill this in knows the verses.
First Letters Only fits the verses on a small card to keep in a Bible for review.
Why scripture copywork works
Hearing a verse once rarely makes it stick. Writing it slows the student down to every word, and the first letters then ask the mind to supply those words instead of reading them. That shift, from copying to recalling to writing from memory, is what makes a verse stick.
Because you type the words, it works with any translation: ESV, KJV, NIV, NKJV, CSB, NASB or the one your church prints. And it scales from a single verse for a young child to whole chapters for a motivated teenager or adult.
A verse a week
Ten minutes a day carries a verse from new to memorized in about a week:
- Days 1 to 3: copy the full verse to learn the exact wording.
- Days 4 to 6: first letter hints, recalling each word.
- Day 7: memory lines. Written from memory means memorized.
For a chapter, keep going: one new verse a week, with the earlier verses reviewed from a First Letters Only card. Families using DittoSheets have recited whole chapters this way.
Watch a chapter recited
Type the week's verse once and print a sheet for every child: big tracing letters for the preschoolers, copywork for the elementary class, First Letter Hints as a take-home quiz, and memory lines for the recitation check.
